SAT Preparation Course
Our SAT Course Consists of:
The Hamden Adult Education SAT prep classes are provided by First Choice College, one of the premier test prep providers in New England, who will offer your child access to live online SAT prep classes. These classes are not recorded videos for your child to watch. Instead, the classes are fully interactive and conducted live, via Zoom, by graduates of Yale and other top universities. The course has been honed over two decades of helping to prepare students to excel on standardized tests. First Choice prepares students using its proprietary method of first, identifying the student’s knowledge gaps through a diagnostic test, then working on strengthening the students weaknesses through lessons aimed at giving the skills and strategies necessary to succeed on the test, and by making the students comfortable with the way the questions are asked on the test and giving strategies to answer them more efficiently, which helps to alleviate test anxiety.
The course consists of:

12 2-hour classes, 24 hours of instruction. Classes meet twice a week for 6-weeks

Access to the First Choice College online test center to grade practice test and provide diagnostic feedback

Access to First Choice College staff to answer your questions about test plans and testing schedules

Verbal
Students learn how to:
- Analyze sentence completion questions
- Improve performance on reading comprehension
- Recognize vocabulary words typically seen on the SAT
- Prepare for the student-written essay
- Apply rules of grammar to the writing questions
Math
Students will learn:
- Math formulas, concepts, and symbols frequently tested on the SAT
- Shortcuts in order to get to the last few questions
- How to do the grid-in questions
- How to analyze strengths and weaknesses in order to develop strategies for improvement
